Job Description: Communications Manager

Position: Communications Manager
Salary: $80,000 to $100,000
Reports to: President
Location: Remote (Anywhere)
Travel: Up to 10% domestic travel (4-5 trips to NYC per year)

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree:
    A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field is often required. Common fields of study include communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or business administration.
  • Master’s Degree (Optional):
    Master's degree in communications, public relations, business administration, or a related field.
  • Professional Certifications (Optional):
    Relevant certifications in communications or related fields.

Experience Requirements:

  • Relevant Experience:
    At least five years of experience in communications, public relations, media relations, or a related field is often required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Self-starter with strategic thinking abilities
  • Crisis management capabilities
  • Media relations expertise
  • Proficiency in digital communications and social media
  • Graphic design skills

Summary of Role:

The Communications Manager will support the President and staff team in developing the overall communications strategy and leading bi-weekly communications meetings with the team. Key responsibilities include:

  • Content Creation and Management:
    • Drafting, designing, and sending a monthly e-newsletter.
    • Drafting and releasing monthly press releases.
    • Drafting, designing, and sending tri-annual print newsletters.
    • Writing, designing, editing, and scheduling social media content (including video editing for Instagram reels and YouTube).
    • Running paid advertising campaigns.
    • Drafting, designing, and sending program/promotional emails.
    • Editing and maintaining the website.
    • Creating graphic designs for programs, news, etc.
  • Coordination and Collaboration:
    • Coordinating with the team and contractors on miscellaneous communications items (e.g., print materials, podcast recordings, photography).
    • Miscellaneous copywriting (e.g., podcast descriptions/show notes, website content, emails, registration pages).
  • Analytics and Reporting:
    • Sharing monthly analytic reports from the website, email, and social media stats.
