The Rev Dr. Mary Barber followed the call to priesthood after a twenty year psychiatry career. Prior to entering seminary, she was clinical director of the largest state hospital system in New York. Mary is currently Rector of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in Philadelphia.
Mary completed her undergraduate degree at Cornell University, medical school at Icahn-Mt Sinai, psychiatry residency at NY Hospital-Cornell, and public psychiatry fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian. She got her MDiv from Episcopal Divinity School at Union Theological Seminary in 2021.
Prior to serving at St. Martin’s, Mary was priest-in-charge of St George’s Episcopal Church in Newburgh, NY, and St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. She served on the Diocese of NY’s Commission on Ministry, Ordination Task Force, and Committee to Elect a Bishop. She is co-author of The Way of the Cross for Pandemic Time, and co-editor of The LGBT Casebook.
Mary is married to Dr. Alleyne Fraser, a neurosurgeon, and Mary and Alleyne are proud parents of two young adult daughters.
