Post-Election Interfaith Vigil for the Healing of the World

We are people of moral courage. We are guided by the shared values of dignity, justice, and peace. These values don't change with each election cycle.

In this moment of waiting and uncertainty, as our country determines our next elected leaders, we choose to step forward as people of faith – standing firm in who we are and who God has called us to be.

We choose to reaffirm our commitment to one another and these shared values, knowing that when we stand shoulder-to-shoulder in the struggle for justice, we are more powerful, more sustainable, and closer to a world where the dignity of all is recognized and upheld.

On November 6th, the day after the election, EDS, the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, and the Episcopal Diocese of New York hosted a post-election Interfaith Vigil for the Healing of the World. In this time of national anxiety and uncertainty, hundreds of people joined in person and online to ease each other’s fears, reflect, and experience peace, trusting that there is always a path forward when we unite across differences.

We were joined by a powerful group of faith leaders and justice advocates, including the Rt. Rev. Matthew F. Heyd, 17th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New York; the Rt. Rev. Lawrence Provenzano, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island; the Rev. Dr. Chloe Breyer, Executive Director of the Interfaith Center of NY; the Very Rev. Lydia Kelsey Bucklin, President and Dean of Episcopal Divinity School; Rabbi Hilly Haber, Director of Social Justice Organizing and Education at Central Synagogue; the Very Rev. Patrick Malloy, Dean of the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine; Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, Executive Vice President of The New York Board of Rabbis; the Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network; and other prominent faith leaders and justice advocates. These leaders stood together before the press proclaiming a message of hope, healing, and solidarity.
