Dear Friend of EDS,
This spring marks ten years since I graduated from Episcopal Divinity School. Earlier this month, I had the joy of returning to our former Cambridge campus for the Kellogg Lecture and Alum Weekend—our largest EDS gathering in recent memory, with nearly 100 alums, faculty, and friends joining us. It was a time of deep connection, healing, and hope.
In the weeks leading up to the event, I reached out to former professors, staff members, and classmates to extend invitations. That process was profoundly moving. Each conversation reminded me that the journey toward healing, forgiveness, and true community is rarely linear—but with steady effort and grace, we are moving closer. I thank God for that.
As we gathered across the many incarnations of EDS, I was struck again by the power of this community to renew our shared commitment to God’s justice in a turbulent world. With support from Zan and Rick at VISIONS, Inc., we had the opportunity to share words that summed up the myriad feelings that arose over the weekend. Homecoming, gratitude, and hope struck me in particular. I am deeply grateful to everyone who made the weekend possible and to all who came home to EDS. The work before us is great and I was reminded that the deep wisdom, professional expertise, and steadfast faith in our community makes great work possible.
In these days when many are asking what difference we can make in a world longing for justice, I hold fast to the belief that God is calling us to rise and build a transformed world. At EDS, we are listening, discerning, and acting in faith. Thank you for being a part of that.
With hope,
The Very Rev. Lydia Kelsey Bucklin
President & Dean

This urgent conversation will spotlight the work of Cristosal, a leading Episcopal-backed human rights organization serving vulnerable communities in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Amid a critical surge in arrests and deportations—and following recent federal defunding that has forced mass layoffs—Cristosal’s work is more essential than ever. This event will lift up the organization’s mission, the spiritual and ethical commitments guiding their work, and the impact of U.S. foreign policy on their capacity to serve. Cristosal board member and EDS Trustee, the Rev. Norma Guerra, will moderate the conversation.
Simultaneous interpretation will be provided to ensure accessibility for both English and Spanish-speaking audiences.

This event, moderated by Dr. Kwok Pui Lan, will critically examine how Christians across the globe are responding to the enduring legacies and current realities of American empire. From military intervention to economic coercion and cultural dominance, U.S. influence continues to shape lives far beyond its borders. This conversation will engage theological, political, and grassroots responses to empire—highlighting resistance, solidarity, and alternative visions rooted in Christian witness.
This course, taught by Dr. Kwok Pui Lan and Bishop Ian T. Douglas, will introduce the demographic shift in the Anglican Communion and the implications for Anglican identity, history, and theology and invite students to consider how being part of a postcolonial, global family of churches informs their ministry.
Global Anglicanism is becoming increasingly postcolonial as churches in the former colonies of the West continue to find their voice and authority in an increasingly polycentric Anglican Communion. This online course introduces laypeople and clergy to some of the realities and possibilities of the contemporary, postcolonial, global Anglican Communion. Participants will gain pastoral perspectives to be leaders in a global family of churches.

EDS supported Dr. Catherine Meeks in hosting "A Conversation on Hope" on April 3, 2025, a compelling and timely virtual gathering exploring truth-telling, courageous leadership in faith, and the transformative nature of hope. With more than 2,000 registrants, this powerful conversation brought together Episcopal bishops from across the country to reflect on love, resistance, and the radical witness of hope in uncertain times.

EDS extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the following alums:
Rest eternal grant to your servants, O God:
And let light perpetual shine upon them.
May their souls, and the souls of all the departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
