The Rev. Hilary Greer ’11 is the Rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Yardley, a parish in suburban Philadelphia that’s creatively living into what it means to be church today, in part thanks to the help of Bill Kondrath and VISIONS. Based on the resurgence of her congregation during and after COVID, Hilary completed an STM thesis in 2023 focused on Howard Thurman’s The Search for Common Ground and its relevance for the post-pandemic church.
Before coming to EDS, Hilary spent 15 years leading national non-profits and organizational development programs focused on cooperatives and community development corporations. She then transitioned into lay ministry as an interfaith hospital chaplain specializing in trauma. After coming to EDS, the beloved community there deepened her vision and conviction of what the church can be in the world, and opened opportunities she never could have gotten elsewhere: having her theology and worldview shaped by the amazing EDS faculty; studying trauma and reconciliation in Rwanda on an EES grant thanks to Ian Douglas; studying Dalit (“outcast”) theology in India thanks to Christopher Duraisingh and a SCOM grant; taking almost a year’s worth of credits at Holy Cross Eastern Orthodox seminary; and studying community organizing and moral leadership at the Kennedy School of Government. It’s a hallmark of EDS that each and every faculty member– whether she had a class with them or not! – shaped and formed her along the way, for which she is eternally grateful.
